The Art of Dance

The idea for this Artwork came from my love for Art and my love for Dance. In the early stages of planning for this project I knew that I wanted to illustrate the beauty of dance. I decided to illustrate capturing a moment of excitement and beauty in a dancers performance. I wanted to capture the fluidity of motion a dancer creates.
The Simple Things
Pointe Shoes and Mixed Media on Canvas
This piece was inspired by the idea of the simple things in everyday life that we overlook. The pointe shoes represent something that I like to do, which is dance.The shoes also represent how quickly we move through things. Each pointe shoe represents something that I think is beautiful but often overlooked. For example, the purple canvas represents sunsets, the pink canvas represents flowers, the blue canvas represents the ocean, the orange canvas represents fire and finally the gold canvas represents night. Each of these things are very simple and usually a part of everyday life, however I don’t feel as though they are appreciated in the way they should be, and so I have illustrated them in a very elaborate way.

My theme for this Artwork was to illustrate important memories. Over the past month I have been gathering photos of people and things that mean something to me. Some of these things are small whereas others are extremely important. The girl represents someone looking back on memories that bring joy to her. This piece is meant to show the importance of capturing moments with the ones you love.
Moments
My theme for my personal exhibition was capturing moments in time. I chose this theme because as I've gotten older I've realized the importance of holding on to memories and capturing those special moments in time whether it be through photographs or how you felt at the time, it's important to hold on to the things that make you happy. I feel like my three artworks really capture this theme in a variety of ways but all connecting to important memories and feelings in my life. This theme is very connected to who I am and how much I have grown as an artist and a person in the last year.
